“It isn’t Fawn anymore, Peter. You can let her go.”
I’m incredibly excited to share the second illustration created by the talented kitmallsdraws for my BBC Sherlock-Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy crossover/AU fanfic, The Fraternity. (The first one, for Chapter 6, is here.)
The illustration above is one of several that I commissioned for the story. It shows a key scene in Chapter 13, “There Past All Recognition Burn”, in which Peter Guillam and George Smiley are forced to accept the death of one of their Scalphunters as they continue with the mission to protect Sherlock Holmes from Jim Moriarty.
As with most of Kat’s illustrations, it’s powerful and yet subdued. I particularly love the way she’s portrayed Smiley here: you can see by the line of his face and the set of his shoulders that he is both pained by, and yet resigned to, this loss.
I hope you enjoy this wonderful work of art, and if you haven’t read the story yet, maybe Kat’s unique vision will spark your interest in giving it a try.
